Paraco’s Dave Latourell took part as an instructor in the NYPGA Industry Responder Training at the New York State Fire Academy in Montour Falls, NY, in early September. The comprehensive 3-day workshop, designed to equip industry professionals — including drivers, service technicians, managers, and more — with the essential skills to handle propane emergencies, provided hands-on training and real-world scenarios to all participants.
This intensive program, led by Dave and other experts in the field, covered topics on OSHA and DOT requirements, best practices for interacting with emergency responders on-site, and specialized strategies to mitigate various propane-related incidents. Dave’s segment specifically focused on the steps to take when encountering emergencies around a sheared off valve on a tank, a bobtail rollover, check lock seal failure, flames impinging on a tank, and more.
Dave reports, “Every year, this training program provides unmatched hands-on and propane emergency case study opportunities to better equip attendees if they are called on to mitigate an industry accident or emergency. Having led this training program, and the Emergency Response Committee for the past decade with the NYPGA, I find the training improves year after year, and is a success due to the participation of all the attendees, as well as the instructors.”
The sold-out training workshop provided a great opportunity for Dave and other propane-industry experts to showcase their knowledge and emergency response skills, as well as teach valuable skills to other professionals in the field. Participants were required to have 3+ years industry experience. Completion of the program provided participants with a certificate of attendance, a responder ID badge, and new-found knowledge and tactics to employ during a propane emergency.
Our thanks to Dave and all instructors, participants, and professionals who work hard every day to make our teams, communities, and clients safe and comfortable.
